Congratulations!

I am obsessed with this billboard. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago on the route to work and I cannot get over it. Adam is playing along...so much so that he kindly pulled over so that I could take a picture of it.

My initial reaction is to laugh. It just strikes me as completely ridiculous. And then I started to be intrigued by the mystery. I have come up with some theories.

A. Lois is a kind animal lover and an active member in the community. A local pet shelter or Humane Society had an idea to inspire people to adopt pets and asked the very personable Lois to pose with a cute new arrival. Lois agrees and the billboard goes up.

B. Lois was recently found guilty of some smallish (non-violent) crime and was sentenced to community service. Lois is actually a local celebrity in the powerful corn growing community (Ms. Corn Detassler 1957) and like most celebrities in her situation she is directed to use her star power in a public service campaign. She gets through the shoot, but refuses to actually hold the dog.

C. Lois works in an office. The desks were all decorated with pictures of kids, grandkids, and cats. Except for poor Lois'. She has lived alone for some time, but that all changed when she got a new dog. She is much happier now. Everyone chipped in and got the billboard to celebrate. Oddly enough, the office's usual mysterious shortage of toilet paper and whiteout has since come to an end.

D. The billboard was purchased by a loving son for his mother. Growley T. Weenersheiner is his mother's new baby and she dotes on him. Carrying around pictures in your wallet just doesn't impress the way it used to so the billboard has been a big hit. Lois is now queen of her bridge club. The son wins major points, but is still pointedly reminded that he doesn't call often enough.

E. The billboard was purchased by Lois' embittered children. Wait until they find out that she is leaving everything to the dog in her will.

F. The dog's name is actually Lois. Keanu voice: "Whoa."

And so on. Did I mention that I am obsessed with this billboard?

This whole thing has reminded me of one of the best pet related signs ever. I think that Adam first shared it with me when it appeared on boingboing. Here it is.

There is no doubt in my mind that Xerxes is awesome. I would love it if somehow his owner and Lois could meet at a dog park someday. I bet the song "Dreamweaver" would be playing.

Ok, that sign is seriously great!
Wendy - I'm a distant relative (in Colorado, my great-uncle is Joe Hammer). Anyway, I check on your blog once in a while, and you just crack me up!
And I'm soooo buying a Mr. Bento for my husband for Father's Day. :)
Thanks for the laugh!

Good to "meet" you! The Mr. Bento really is great and has held up well. Glad you are enjoying my crazy little space.

Love the doggie ads. Very cool. I would like a Xerxes of my own.
